The UN Department of Peace Operations (DPO) has created specialized training packages to prepare peacekeepers, especially United Nations Military Observers (UNMO), who frequently operate unarmed in remote and insecureareas. Due to the increasing complexity of these missions, UNMOs require a more robust pre-deployment training program according to DPO performance standards. The new Specialized Training Material provides pre-deployment requirements, lesson plans, and specific materials for UNMOs, replacing the 2010 guidelines and materials for Military Liaison Officers, UNMOs, and Military Advisers.

- Course objective: The training materials aim to provide member states with a comprehensive package that integrates the Conceptual, Legal, and Operational Frameworks, incorporating aspects of the Protection of Civilians,Gender, Security Risk Management (SRM), and IED safety. They include small learning activities and a comprehensive scenario-based exercise to enhance participants' understanding of operating in a UN Peacekeepingenvironment. These training packages are designed for both pre-deployment and in-mission training.

- Course duration: 2 (two) weeks in total (10 working days)
• 1 (one) week (5 working days) for CPTM to be conducted remotely (online classes)
• 1 (one) week (5 working days) for STM for UN Military Observers to be conducted at the NPOTC facilities, consisting of lectures, syndicate discussions, map exercises, a table top exercise (TTX) and a Field Training Exercise (FTX), both based on fictional scenario.

- Target audience: Military Officers (OF-1 to OF-5) in active service.

- Language used in the course: English (minimum STANAG 6001 Functional Language 3-2-3-2). All participants must be able to understand classes in English and to engage in discussions in order to fully benefit from the training.
